Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: I been having high blood pressure, my reg doctor said to take it 2x a day for 3 days. but its extremely high, I looked up uncommon symptoms of high blood pressure is nausea, if u check my history of questions you will seen that month or so ago I said I was nauseas daily and it is still about the same, a few times pepto might help other times I just deal with it. on Friday at 6pm my bp was 199/116 and at 9 pm was 174/83 and Saturday at 9m am was 219/118 at 4pm was 173/117 and at 9 pm it was 175/101 and this morning at 1 am it was 201/117. the dr suggest I walk to the pharmacy. I am out of breath some days just walking from my apartment , down my hall to the elevator. theres no way I could do 4 or 5 blocks. I have appointments Monday and Tuesday , so I am unable to just go see her, and seeing I don't have severe symptoms I doubt the er would help any thing, any thing that helps lower bp that doesn't require a prescription? whats the best thing to do?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your blood pressure values are really high.

From the other hand your symptoms (shortness of breath) could be related to heart failure or other possible metabolic disorders (like chronic anemia, an electrolyte imbalance, etc.).

There is no OTC drug which can lower your blood pressure in these ranges. From the other hand there is no natural relief to your symptoms.

From the other hand it is important determine the possible cause of your symptoms, in order to make the best treatment choices.

For this reason, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound to examine your cardiac function and structure
- a chest X ray study
- some blood lab tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose, kidney and liver function tests, PCR, sedimentation rate).

I think your situation is serious and you need to consult as soon as possible with a doctor. ER seems to be a good choice in this regard.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
