Question: i am taking medication for anxiety disorder /panic attack disorder/ agoraphobia from 2008 july onwards.my age is 36 now (male) how much more time I need to continue medication ? The reason for this problem is (best part is I very well know why this happened) fear of disease from last so many years, secondly I am sensitive, kind hearted and emotional, thirdly my mother in her young age faced some psychiatric conditions.Fourthly(cheating in my career in Dubai where the problem started in 2008). This problem made the life more hectic as I am many times not able to travel and do lot of work. I cannot use most of the time productively and many other things, though I am positive now to recover by any measure I need to take. I am try Ayurveda also now , some yoga and interested in meditation and other spiritual subjects. as now I am somewhat concerned about the side effects of the allopathy medication. I do suffer from short breathing, blurred vision, dizziness etc sometimes when my body demands medicines and I don't take the full dose. I also suffer from gastric and acidity.I have faced two surgeries( sinusitis in 2005 and fistula in 2014).

Brief Answer:
it depends on your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

The medicines you are taking are in very low dose.

Neurograin contains Caffeine, Ergometrine, Paracetamol, Prochlorperazine. Please clarify if I am wrong. This is used for migraine type of headache and it should not be used for long.

Clozy contains 0.5 mg and half of this tablet daily is very low dose and you can take it lifetime without any problem. it is used for anxiety.

Thealife is and amino acid and recently launched by Sun Pharma and basically it is recommended for some stress which is not severe. This is supplement and it will also not cause any bad effect on your health.

You have not been given any specific medicine for anxiety disorder.

You have very well narrated your history and you are aware that why you are prone to anxiety disorder.

Treatment of any anxiety disorder includes both medicines and psychotherapy.

In psychotherapy I prefer cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).In mild cases only CBT is sufficient. In moderate to severe cases initially medicines and then CBT is added. And later on medicines stopped gradually.

In medicines SSRI group of drugs (fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, escitalopram) are main stay of the treatment.

Benzodiazepines group of drugs (clonazeapm, lorazepam or etizolam) are used initially for short duration for fast symptomatic relief.

For a while to improve health you need to maintain healthy lifestyle. This includes regular daily exercise (walking or running), hygienic food habits (no junk food, no fatty food, preferably only home-made food with law salt and fat with more fruits and vegetables) and timely scheduled sleep. Yoga- meditation can also help.

Your symptoms of short breathing, blurred vision, dizziness etc are due to anxiety and frequent as well as affecting your social and/or occupational life, then you need more specific treatment.

With psychotherapy we can cure anxiety disorder. I also want to mention that do not hesitate to take medicines if at all it they are required as they are really useful, you won’t have any serious side effects and you can stop after gradually after complete improvement under psychiatrist's guidance.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
