What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain Despite A Normal ECG?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: I saw a vascular surgeon after complication in my wrist, problem can be seen/read in the pdf attached (chat with doctor). I did not start the treatment for 2 days since i was busy but a Day before yesterday I was coming back from a road trip. My chest started paining a lot. On the left side both front and back same areas. I was rushed to a hospital where ecg was done. Pulse, ecg, BP all were normal, he said it was a muscular pain.Thereafter I started having problems with breathing. I was feeling shortness of breath. I didnt give attention to it thinking that it will be ok. But today shortness was unbearable and some red patches came out just below the left breast muscle also I started coughing (which was clear). I was rushed again, doctors said it might be allergy/ECG marks on chest. I am worried since I know my vascular history and I fear if it is pulmonary embolism or sort? Please help

Brief Answer:
Get done D dimer test.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.. I have gone through the attachment you have provided.
Yes, by your history and description, possibility of pulmonary embolism is more.
D dimer estimation is the screening test for pulmonary embolism.
So get done D dimer test.
If this is negative then no need to worry for pulmonary embolism.
Ecg changes also suggest pulmonary embolism.
So it will be of great help if you send me ecg images.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

1) No i dont have as such persistent pain in the calf. But sometimes when i wake up it pains like its a vein pull or something like that (Hindi me we call it nas pe nas chadhna). Nothing beyond that because that goes away in minutes
2) I might have little tenderness as the doctor today itlsef said that nobody has red patches even after a safe process like ecg, but i got marks on chest on at V3, V4 and V5

They are having large number of collection centers in all parts of XXXXXXX
So get it done and let me know the results.
