Question: Hi, I just experienced a short, sharp pain in my upper left back, with no sort of exterior trauma to explain it. I am a 56 year old male.Any ideas?
It briefly was accompanied by shortness of breath, evident in my speaking, but i am speaking fine now.

Brief Answer:
Nothing worrisome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The short sharp pain in the back that you had can be due to a muscle spasm or mild inflammation of the lungs or pleura. This can be related to a mild viral infection also.
Now that you are breathing normally and the pain is not persistent there is nothing to worry, Taking steam inhalation and doing a hot compress in the area can help. You can also take a mild pain killer if necessary.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
