What Causes Severe Throat Irritation And Voice Hoarseness?
Question: I find Uribel very helpful for my IC and want to keep taking it. My problem is that it irritates my throat and causes severe hoarseness. I am wondering if there are specific ingredients in it that trigger my reactions and if somehow I can find uribel or something similar without these ingredients. Please only answer if you have experience with IC. I am asking for my wife.

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been diagnosed to have Interstitial Cystitis ( IC)and have been taking Uribel and getting satisfactory relief from symptoms .
Interstitial Cystitis is very notorious disease both for patient and treating physician as far as treatment and relief from symptoms is concerned
Uribel is is combination of four drugs Hyoscyamine, Methenamine, Methylene blue, and Phenyl salicylate which are found to be effective in treatment of irritative bladder symptoms associated with Interstitial Cystitis.
The sourness of throat and dryness of the mouth are known side effect of the drug hence many patients discontinue the drugs due to this side effects .
Unfortunately there are no other drug with similar action without having side effects .There are other drugs like anti muscuaranic drugs but they do have more serious side effects like constipation and dryness of the eyes etc which are more bothersome in elderly patients .
Normally I suggest my patients to chew sugarless candy or toffees to keep the mouth well lubricated with saliva that results from chewing candy or toffees and it works very well .
