What Causes Severe Pain In The Scrotum?
Now, he has terrible pain in his scrotum.
He's taken a couple of pain pills, but they don't seem to help.
Why would he have pain there and what do you think we should about it?
I'm afraid he needs to go to the ER again!
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
severe pain in the scrotum could be a sign of testicular torsion or inflammation (infection in various structures inside the scrotum), strangulated hernia and referred pain from a urinary tract obstruction.
Any of the aforementioned causes is an emergency situation and needs immediate assessment and treatment.
His history of radiation, prostate cancer and bowel obstruction make all causes possible, so I couldn't say which may be more likely.
Clinical examination, ultrasound of the scrotum and perhaps and abdominal CT scan are essential tests for the investigation. The choice of tests will depend on clinical examination data.
