Posted on Tue, 1 Jul 2014
Question: I have a severe pain in my right abdomen and back, just below my rib cage every morn when I attempt to get out of bed. I have learned to sit straight up and use my leg to support my standing. What can be the cause of this cramping pain. Did I pull a muscle in my back.

Brief Answer:
Gallbladder disease is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Right upper quadrant pain along with back pain is typical of gallbladder disease.
An ultrasound scan of the abdomen may be done to confirm it.

Other causes of right upper quadrant pain include peptic ulcer disease...
Pulled muscle is a possibility as you work out in the gym. But I would like to keep it as the last possibility only as you do not find relief with naproxen and heating pad.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
