Brief Answer:
Muscular pain is the most common cause but few others mentioned also

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and I think I understand your concern.

Back pain can be caused of different causes and the most common one is muscular. Muscular back pain is worse with movement and touch so if this is what happens with you than it makes more likely it is a back pain due to the muscles being strained locally.

It is good you are not having urinary symptoms. On the other hand kidney infection might still have minimal urinary symptoms but cause severe back pain and fever so if you have not had a urinary infection to confirm that urine was clean after the antibiotics than you might need to have a urinalysis done.

Another important reason for your symptoms especially after the antibiotic use would be if you are getting some gastroenteritis due to the antibiotics that "kill" the bacterial flora of the bowel. In this case I would recommend you to drink plenty and have some probiotics to help substitute the normal bacteria of the bowel. If blood with the stools or you are having fever you will need to see a doctor.

A viral gastroenteritis might be a cause but this is generally self-limiting and no special care is needed but make sure you drink well and try to prevent infection from getting other people by washing hands regularly and not touching the food of the others till you are better.

So to conclude I would say:
1. make sure you drink well and do not get dehydrated
2. make sure you have a normal urinalysis after the antibiotic use for urinary infection
3. take some probiotics (enterogermina) to help restore the intestinal flora after antibiotic use
4. Take some paracetamol and Ibuprofen after food (to protect the stomach) for the pain and have some local warm compresses to help with pain.
5. if no improvement in 3-4 days or earlier if any worsening you will need to see your doctor for a close examination and proper diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your question.

Wish you will get better soon.

Kind Regards,

Dr Antoneta Zotaj
