What Causes Severe Itchiness In The Anal Region?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: The inside of my anus inches terribly bad. It is off and on during the day but not as severe as it is during the night, it often times wakes me up at night. The itching occurred about 2 to 3 months ago and then went away. It has started again and I do not know what triggered it or how to make it stop. I have not been able to pass a firm stool in about a week. I haven't had a bowel movement in 2-3 days. I have also been bloated. I eat a very healthy diet and drink at least one liter of water per day. I exercise almost daily as well. What can I do and what type of doctor should I see?

Brief Answer:
Constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You most probably are suffering from Hemorrhoids (either external or internal or both). Constipation triggers the itch on the hemorrhoids. The vary fact that you did not pass stool for 3 days and not able to form stool properly for a week is good description to talk about hemorrhoids. Your water intake is perhaps too low to cater to the bowel needs you should need additional one to one and half litre.

You should see a General surgeon/Proctologist and get the examination to confirm the diagnosis of hemorrhoids. the other possibility is anal fissure.

Meantime you can apply an over the counter available antihemorrhoidal cream. Your local store pharmacist can suggest you the best brand with lignocaine and beclomethasone.
