What Causes Severe Heartburn After Taking Clindamycin?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Dec 2015
Question: I was placed on Clindamycin 300mg by my dentist as I was leaving on a business trip to London for 10 days. On my return he was going to proceed with a capping one of of teeth that pwS the cause of the discomfort. I am at the end of my medication (4pills to go) and yesterday I started to develop "severe heart burn" I think when I eat. In actual fact it is very uncomfortable for me to eat as it starts to burn in the middle of my chest.
Do u think it is from the medication.

Brief Answer:
It is due to clindamycin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting your query.

Well yes , it is due to the drug only. One of the side effects of Clindamycin is esophagitis. It means inflammation of the food pipe.

This condition will last for few days and subside on its own in few days. But for symptom relief you can use Antacid syrup before you consume any food.

If inspite of that burning or pain persists get a prescription for Rabeprezole and use it for a week.

Eat bland food, avoid spicy and non veg food, avoid hot food , carbonated drinks and citrus fruits.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.
