What Causes Severe Headache With Swollen Fingers And Toes?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: I have severe head ache on forehead and around the head. Not near nose or not below eye or face. My fingers and toes are swollen. Nurse practitioner says acute Sinusitis and prescribed antibiotic. But I haven't read anywhere that sinusitis can cause swelling on the fingers and toes. Also head ache is going on for six days now (swelling noticed for past three days). Anything that I can bring to my Dr to check will be helpful. I am 41 year old female 103 lb weight, 5ft 2 inch height. Otherwise healthy.

Brief Answer:
Imaging studies are necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If sinusitis was suspected, imaging studies are necessary to confirm or exclude it.

Sinuses x-rays, or better CT scan of the head are needed for this purpose.

Swelling of fingers may be related to antibiotics use as a side effect, or may be related to osteoarthritis.

In this case blood tests about inflammation levels are necessary, besides x-rays of the hands.

Discuss with your primary care Doctor about getting evaluated further.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
