What Causes Severe Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jun 2017
Question: Hi, I am having issues. 3rd time this year with a "stomach bug" where I can't eat for says. Starts with diarrhea and feels like I need to throw up the whole time but I can't. Haven't had a bowel moment since Friday morning but also haven't eaten much at all. Im pretty positive this is something to do with my colon or intestines. I plan on doing an enema tomorrow and am very nervous. Currently I'm worried about throwing up feces. Anyone there? I need immediate answers which is why I came here and paid. Also considering laxatives but don't want to trigger vomiting or dehydrate myself anymore than I probably am. I can barely sip water though out the day because I feel like I'm going to throw up instantly.

Brief Answer:
Reccurent gastroenteritis most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.

Most likely you are having Reccurent Gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is inflammation of intestinal mucosa. Most commonly caused due to viral infection however it can be a bacterial or protozoal infection also. Diarrhoea, bloating, nausea and vomiting are most common symptoms. As its recurrent in your case i would advice you to get a stool examination done to rule out bacterial or parasitic infestation as in that case therapy with A pack and Metronidazole would be considered for 5 to 7 days.

For vomiting and nausea take prochlorperazine 5mg(prescription)

Yes you can take enema if required polyethylene glycol enema would be good for you.
But if required you could go for injectable ondansteron to supress nausea.
Keep A eye on blood pressure and if systolic becomes less then 100mm of hg go to nearest emergency room to get injectables.

A good quality probiotic like Econorm can be given twice daily for few days.
A short term course of antibiotic and antiprotozoal can be taken after reports of stool test if required.

Take a plenty of fluid especially those rich in electrolytes like Orange juice,Coconut water.
Hydration should be maintained.
Numbness in body can be because of severe electrolyte imbalance due to dehydration.
Keep an eye over blood pressure. In case if systolic B.P falls below 110mm of hg take him to the nearest emergency department for parentral therapy.

Strict adherence to the diet suggested below is required along with medications-
-Eat simple,Natural and organic.
-Take a low fat easily digestible food.
-Eat a lot of raw salads esp. vegetables.
-No alcohol or smoking.
-No aerated beverages or soda.

Ok, having a hard time putting anything in me. Took an hour or two to eat a banana, I just feel like I'm going to throw up when I try to eat/drink. Even a few sips of water nearly triggers nausea. Another doc thinks I have H. Pylori, what so you think? He also said it's not dangerous if left untreated, but that's a complete lie. It can cause leaky gut and eventually lead to cancer. I don't know what to think anymore.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again ,
If you are experiencing that much of nausea then best suggestion is to go to nearest emergency room and get i.v ondensetron shots(anti emetic) i don't think taking oral medicine would help ypou.
Along with that an ultrasonogram abdomen should be done to rule out inflamme intestines.
To detect h.pylori endoscopy would be done but right now first requirement is to stablise your condition.H.pylori in long terms can lead to ulcers and a number of problems.

As of now go to the nearest emergency room asap.

Regards.

hey, so I went to the hospital that day. They pumped 2 litres of iv fluid in me and didn't urinate for 2 hours and it was very little. feeling a little better everyday but have diarrhea nearly everytime I eat, and I'm not even eat half a meal. also, when it's not diarrhea it's pitch black stools. They're doing a stool test currently, but that won't see if I have ulcers or worse.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again ,
Don't worry once the stool reports are there antibiotic or antiprotozoal therapy would be started.
Most likely you are having protozoal infection.
Start taking imodium 4mg stat dose followed by 2 mg twice daily till the loose stools stop.
For nausea get a prescription for prochlorperazine maleate and take it sos for nausea and vomiting.
Add a probiotic to this regimen also.
Don't worry stool test will make it clear whether black color is due to blood or not.
Till then take medicines as adviced for symptomatic relief. You will start feeling better after second dose.
Take lots of electrolytes to keep your body hydrated.

Wish yiu great luck and early recovery.
