What Causes Severe Diarrhea And Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Sat, 19 Apr 2014
Question: I have been suffering from severe diarrhea and abdominal which gradually increased and began to really interfere with daily life in the past year. Pain after eating, bowel accidents, etc. I also have undergone treatment for breast cancer - chemo, surgery and radiation, in the past year. My diet is average and if anything, I have found that "healthy" whole foods such as fruit and vegetables seem to make it worse. Ultrasound showed gallstones, but GI doc expressed doubt this is causing my problems. Movements are yellow and burn. I have been reading about BAD and it seems like this is what I have. Besides taking cholestyramine, what else could I do to prevent attacks and figure out what the triggers are? I have had colonosopy and endoscopy, which found "inflammation" and excess bile. My colonoscopy was normal except some "white patches" that were unexplained.

Brief Answer: Detailed below. Detailed Answer: Hello! Thank you for the query. Your symptoms in my opinion are caused by gallstones. Please try to once again review your symptoms. Here are typical symptoms of gallstones: - upper middle or right abdominal pain/discomfort usually caused by foods (especially spicy, fried, fatty foods, alcohol) - the pain can radiate to the back or shoulder - yellow stools, loose stools, bloating due to elevated bile production (it can not be stored in the gallbladder as it is filled with gallstones - nausea As colonoscopy is clear, gastroscopy shows inflammation due to excess bile, gallstones related symptoms are even more probable. I suggest you to consult a surgeon (instead of GI doctor) and consider laparoscopy. Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions. Regards.
