Posted on Sat, 24 Sep 2016
Question: Yes I'm having a deep cough that when I cough I get dizzy. I'm also very exhausted and having trouble getting motivated. I am coughing up some mucus but I have no fever. Just feeling badly, Ibuprofen seems to help. My chest does hurt once in awhile but not always. I haven't seen a Dr. because I have no insurance.

Brief Answer:
If not better after 3-5 days of symptoms then you may need antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.

I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

Feeling badly is not a good sign. The general condition is very important.
In these situations though, it is normal to have those symptoms for 3-5 days. since you have no fever, and I don't know for how long have you had these symptoms, then I would say to wait until you have total 5 days of symptoms. By that time, even if cough continue, but you should be starting to feel more energetic. If you have more then 5 days with these symptoms, then maybe you will need to start an antibiotic because you may have an underlying respiratory tract infection and even pneumonia.

Now, you will need a physical exam or an X-ray to confirm that, and then a prescription with antibiotics to your local doctor, so you will need to see him anyway.

Meanwhile take a cough medicine like Acetylcysteine 200 mg 3 times/day which will help with the cough.

Take steam inhalation three times day for next few days.

Continue taking the Ibuprofen as needed for pains for next 2-3 days.
Drink plenty of fluids...this is very important, and eat healthy.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Brief Answer:
Another infection above the one you had

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question.
Appologies for the late reply.

Seems like you may be having an exacerbation of a chronic cough and you may need antibiotics. You may also be having another infection above the one you were already having.

To confirm the need of the antibiotics you need to do a check up to a doctor, who should examine you and maybe order an xray to see what is happening to your lungs.

Meanwhile I will advice for you to use the cough syrup or tablets which will help soften the secretions from you lungs...so same advises given above apply.

Let me know if I answered your question and if you need more clarifications.

Regards
