default
Posted on Wed, 16 Mar 2016
Question: Hi! I reduced my weight from 94 t0 80 with the help of a dietician. I didnt use any drug or medicine for it. Just by controlling the diet. Rather i started taking fruits and salads which i ate very less before. But with weight loss developed burning and dry skin. Burning started from feet. Now the whole body skin burns. Skin has become too much sensitive.I Cant go out in sun.Extreme cold also irritates. There are some eruptions on face and behind ear. Paint and smoke also cause irritation. Ig and phadiatop tests are normal. Is there any permanent cure? Does anti histamines cure the disease or jst give temporary relief. I hv been to many doctors. One said anxiety , one said eczema , one said photosenstivity, one said it is contact dermatitis and suggested Dezit m for 3 months. Does it cure me ...?is it possible one has normal results of allergy test and still having allergy symptoms? I have been in problem for 6 months and want permanent cure. I am 38 yrs old.

Brief Answer:
Kindly let me if you are using anything for topical application?

Detailed Answer:
Helli. Thank you for writing to us

I have read your query and I have noted your concern.

Were you given some topical preparation to apply?
You certainly seem to have extremely dry skin. Dry skin is sensitive and can get itchy.
I dont think this related to weight loss however i would suggest you to test for thyroid as hypothyroidism is a common cause of dry and itchy skin. Antihistamines are for symptomatic relief from itching and they are usually used as a adjuvant to specific therapy. Were you also pescribed any topical preparation for local application?

I got my thyroid tested in october . Thyroid profile was in range. Means it was negative. I am not using any topical prepration. I use Emoderm to apply on face and behind ear. The problem started in july with fungal infection in the front part of penis. The doctor diagnosed it as BP. I was prescribed megaspan cream to apply and Fumac 150 once a week. It took 2 months to get it cured. Bt after that this burning and pins and needle feeling started. Vitamin B12 was in range. Vitamin D was somewhat below range. I took supplement for that. I was also tested for HIV, Herpes ,diabetes and ANA and DsDna and LFT.All reports were negative. Is it possible one has allergy and IGE and Phadiatop are in range?

Brief Answer:
Seems like your skin condition is related to dry skin

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I have reviewed the attachments. Your reports are largerly normal. I don't think you have an allergy as the investigations are absolutely normal including thyroid.

I think your symptoms are largely related to dry skin condition which can cause these kind of symptoms.

I suggest you to use a moisturiser e.g Amylac lotion Or Xerina lotion, twice daily, over whole body. Use a non-drying soap e.g Oilatum soap.

I also suggest you to take a tablet of Gabapentin+Methylcobalamin for a few days e.g Tablet Nova-M 75 Or Pregaba-M 75, twice daily for a few days. This is specifically for burning sensation that you notice in your feet and elsewhere.

In addition you may also take a tablet of Dazit for a few more days for symptomatic relief from itching, by which time topical preparations would take its effect and your skin wont feel itchy anymore.

Respected sir
Thanx for your advice. I hv also given blood for IgG ,IgM and IgA. IgA and IgM are in range. Bt IgG is 1761 and its normal range is between 700 to 1600. Fungal infection behind the ear is recurring again and again. Also I am getting small cracks (2-3)like bruises and blood coming out. May be due to extreme dryness due to extreme cold.Is IgG level increase responsible for the problem? Can you suggest Some diet good for skin health or any food which I should avoid.

Brief Answer:
Topical antifungal for fungal infection & intensive moisturiser for dryness

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

IgG levels are not related to your skin problems. IgG levels indicate that you have a good ongoing immunity to various common antigens including infections.
For fungal infection/ seborheic dermatitis, behind the ear you may use a topical preparation e.g Eumosone-M cream, twice daily for 2 weeks. It is a combination of topical antifungal agent i.e miconazole along with a mild topical steroid i.e clobetasone butyrate. It is a prescription product and I suggest you to use this cream under supervision and guidance of your local doctor.
For dryness and fissuring/ cracking, as I have already suggested, you may use an 12% ammonium lactate based moisturiser e.g Amylac cream/ lotion Or Lacsoft-c cream/ lotion, twice daily regularly. These are intensive medical grade moisturisers and you would be able to procure them with a chemist only after your local doctors written prescription note.
You may add an oral Vitamin E supplement to your diet e.g Evion 400 IU capsules. Apart from that there are no specific dietary additions or exclusions.

Respected sir
As suggested by u i went to local dermatologist. He told me that I m suffering from chol. Urticaria. The same doctor told me in Aug last year that u suffer from sun allergy. I couldnt believe the change in diagnosis. Hair follicles behind my ear also stand as one feels during cold. It is happening since summer. Seeing this a doctr at Fortis told me u suffer frm anxiety. Is it a symptom of urticaria? Now the local doctor advised me Allegra 180. Iyotic soap for body. Keto lotion for scalp and white light paraffin cream to apply on the body twice. Now what would you suggest? Is there any test to disgnose the above mentioned disease? Before starting the medicine I want the problem to be diagnosed properly. Although I started applying cream on the whole body . And i also want to tell you i feel burning sensation the whole day which increaseswhen I go in sunlight. No itching in the body. The cracks in the palm are also increasing even after applying paraffin cream. Any change in medicine?

Brief Answer:
Xerosis with seborrheic dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Judging by your description and devised medications I am still of the opinion that you have Generalised Xerosis i.e dry skin, as you have been asked to apply a moisturiser i.e 'white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin'. Moreover, since you say that your palms have developed cracks, it exemplifies that you have generalised dry skin and since palms and soles are the driest parts of body therefore, these areas may also develop cracks.
I would also ask you to apply a moisturiser but a different one from what your doctor has suggested. If you can refer back to my previous reply I asked you to apply Amylac lotion Or cream, which is a much better moisturiser than 'white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin'. Amylac would also be effective in healing cracks of palms. So you can switch to Amylac lotion once you are finised with paraffin based moisturiser.
I also considered a possibility of seborrheic dermatitis/ fungal infection behind ears and I suggested you to use eumosone - m cream, behind ear. You may continue with ketoconazole lotion for scalp wash as scalp scaling is also part of seborrheic dermatitis.
Allegra Or Dazit, are equally effective and you may choose either of them for itching.

To summarise:
-Use Amylac lotion for whole body, incuding palms, except face, twice daily.
-Keto lotion for shampoo, alternate days.
-Eumosone- M behind ear, twice daily.
