default
Posted on Thu, 7 Aug 2014
Question: Hi,
My son who is 5 years feels a lot of itching. I checked and found no rashes but still itching is there. This seems to be there from long and happens both during summer and winters as well. I applied talcum and calsoft lotion which provides him relief for a while but not going away completely.
He takes bath daily and sonetimes twice a day as well.
The main areas where he feel itchiness is on his upper back (under neck area)
Can you suggest?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thank you for writing to us on HCM.

From your description and history, its difficult to say anything specific because there is itching without any obvious rash. Still, I would like to put a provisional diagnosis of atopic dermatitis (dermatitis due to loss of hydration from skin)

I would suggest a local application of mild steroid desonide twice a day and a cream containing tacrolimus 0.03% at night time.

Apply a good quality moisturiser like Cetaphil DAM throughout the year and use Cetaphil Bar for daily bath.
Oral antihistaminics like levocetrizine should to be taken to relieve itching.
Use a good quality sunscreen before going out in sun.
Try to wear cotton based fabrics as far as possible.

I would insist you to plan a thorough consult with a dermatologist and discuss the treatment which I have advised.

Let me know if you require any assistance from my side.
Thank you
