What Causes Severe Anxiety And Excessive Sweating After Drinking Alcohol?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jan 2017
Question: I used to be able to drink wine and champagne and would like to do so again around the holidays in particular. I guess the sugar high and increase in anxiety and sweats are caused by the drinking now but never were in the past. Symptoms are extreme. Strangely enough I do not have this if I drink straight Tequila. I don't want Tequila, I prefer to sip wine and or champagne with my friends. Any suggestions to prevent or at least lessen these "attacks" which are severe. I do not drink a lot, but 2 to 3 glasses once or twice a week during the holiday season would be what I would want. I know about drinking extra water and eating protein (Nuts or Cheese). Also, some aspirin used in combination with these things used to help significantly once the problem developed. I did hear something about "Alcohol Dehydrogenase". Is this something I can take to prevent or severely decrease this inevitable feeling which is HORRIBLE. Can you help with any info?

Brief Answer:
one has to look for ALD [alcoholic liver disease]

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and before starting with the treatment aspect do let me know about certain things for better management of the disease/pathology:

1. As Alcohol is the most common consumption around the world and is looked upon as socially acceptable hepatotoxin thus Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD) is used to describe the range/frequency of liver damage associated with acute and chronic alcoholism and is directly related to the amount of alcohol (of any kind) consumed, and DURATION for which it is consumed.

2.The danger dose of alcohol consumption is >80g/day. Most alcoholics consume approximately 160g/day for at least 8 years. A steady daily intake is more dangerous than intermittent drinking.
Whisky: 30ml = 10g
Wine: 100ml = 10g
Beer: 250ml = 10g

PS. do let me know about your wine intake

3. have you check with LFT [liver function tests] since alcohol is the commonest Hepatotoxic agent after which one may require liver Biopsy, Ultrasonography/CT Abdomen, peripheral blood macrocytosis.

4. As Alcohol Dehydrogenase in humans helps in breakdown of toxic alcohol to acetaldehyde to harmless acetic acid thus one has to take alcohol dehydrogenase inhibitor [e.g. disulfiram] which will block the enzyme and will result in build up of acetaldehyde and bring unpleasant effect.

PS. I personally don't advocate the use of this drug.

5. Do let me know about above questionnaire, till then prophylactic aspect is discussed:

. Avoid: excess physical –mental exertion, sun exposure, corrylium, smoking, errhine therapy, betel leaves, gruel, soup, day time sleeping, garlic, ginger, onion, spicy-heavy- junk food, mustard oil, pickles.
. Take: mint, coriander, tomato, cumin, plenty of water, vitamins and mineral supplements, apple, banana, grapes, dates
. You can practice: bhujangasana, halasana, paschimottasana, sarvangasana, shalabhasana, shavasana and vakrasana and pranayamas like bhastrika and kapalbhati.
. Lemon juice mixed with sugar in a glass of water helps release stress removing hormones from the body and bring mind at peace/rest.

.
i. Take 1 spoon black pepper powder and 5 spoons jaggery in 4 cup water and boil till 2 cups remain, filter it and drink for 1 month.
ii. Take 3 teaspoons of bitter gourd with a glass of water every morning for a month.
iii. Mix 4-5 dates in half glass of water and drink 2 times daily for a month.
iv. Regular intake of Apple reduces thirst for wines or any type of liquor.
v. Honey has the power to neutralize harmful effects of alcohol.
vi. Apple, almond, banana, broccoli, cantaloupe, melon, carrot, cashew nut, corn, cauliflower, grapes, guava, lemon, XXXXXXX orange, pineapple, soybean, spinach have anti oxidant and detoxifying properties so take them in plenty.
