What Causes Right-sided Pain Above Hip Bone?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: Pain in the ovary/ right side above hip bone, What's causing?

One dr, said I need a hip replacement, and another knee.
Had MI of ovary, that was fine, but the pain shoots down to the right knee, which sometimes causes me not to be able to walk. It is like hit or miss, one minute I am fine and the next cannot walk.
I think the pain is related to a different issue than hip and knee. Just got s pain, sharp on the right side for 10 seconds, pls. help?

Brief Answer:
Disc prolapse likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
It seems you are suffering from degenerative disc disease & it occurs due to repetitive overload or stress to the disc & it increases the risk of disc herniation & spinal canal stenosis. Due to this Disc bulge pressure occurs on nerve roots & radiation of pain and numbness occurs in that dermatotome It can cause a pain radiating to the hip and knee.
Physiotherapy like intermittent lumbar traction , back exercise reduces pressure of disc bulge for some time & gives relief.

The following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required ( dont repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food.
• Avoid forward bending.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.

I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Back strengthening will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Back strengthening exercises and regular physiotherapy can help you. This needs an MRI scan first to detect the extent of problem. In case there is a nerve root compression associated with disc prolapse then surgical treatment can also be considered.
Hope my answer is helpful.
