What Causes Right Sided Jaw Pain?

default
Posted on Sat, 31 Dec 2016
Question: Hello,

Recently I developed a dull pain in the right side of my jaw. The pain seems to be at the back of the jaw just below where my ear lobe connects to my head. Feeling both sides of my jaw there seems to be a small bulge or inflammation under the skin in the ares of the pain. The pain isn't really noticeable except for when I wake up in the morning and eat my breakfast. When I am opening my mouth for the first time in the am it is actually kind of locked. After that I can function without much issue but there is dull pain usually only when I eat through out the day.

I am not sure if it is a dental abscess. I was at the dentist about a month ago but since then I have and no mouth pain or visible abscesses in my mouth.

I did just get over a pretty bad head cold a week ago. After the cold subsided is when the jaw pain started.

Thoughts?

Best,

Brief Answer:
Needs more details..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCAREMAGIC..

As per your complain pain at the back of jaw on both sides can be related to wisdom tooth as along with pain and swelling there is also restrictions in mouth opening in morning...

I would like to know a few details so that I can guide you better..

1.Are your wisdom teeth erupted, if yes are they completely erupted or partially erupted?
2.Is the swelling appearing like round structures or is it mobile?
3.Do you also experience any bad taste in mouth or food accumulation at the very back of teeth?
4.Do you experience pain in ears and head also?

Please revert back with answers..

Regards..

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX

Just to clarify, the pain is only on the one side of my jaw. It is only on the right side.

I had x-rays at my last dentist appointment and my wisdom teeth actually still have never showed up. They aren't present in any of the x-rays and haven't been for years.

The swelling under my ear feels like it is round and kind of hard...almost like a marble behind my earlobe at the back of my jaw? When I press on it the spot is sore. Again, it is only on one side. The bump doesn't appear to be on the left side of my jaw.

I do not experience any bad taste or food accumulation at the back of my teeth.

There is a bit of soreness in my left ear also but no pain in my head at all.

Let me know what you think or how you think I should proceed.

Best,

Brief Answer:
Seems like swollen lymph node..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

It seems like a swollen lymph node on the right side..
As you also have a recent history of cold it further points towards it..

Please consult an ENT expert and get evaluated..

As of now do alter warm and cool compresses over the swelling and take Tab Ibuprofen 400mg twice to thrice daily after food for next 2-3 days..

Hope this helps..

Regards
