What Causes Red Spots On Penis Post Swimming?

Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: Hello, I am down here in Florida from Oklahoma. I recently went swimming in the ocean . didn't rinse off till I got home. Anyways I started to take a shower and when the water went down on the head of my penis it burned. So I looked at it and I had red spots around the opening of my penis . anyways the next day they started to clear up and then I went swimming in the ocean again. They day after the spots started to clear up and I got some more spots but not as bad. However I did rinse off rite away after swimming. It is now a day after my last swim and the spots are clearing up. What do you think this is? I have had unprotected sex I. The past three months

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload an Image

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern.

I would be able to guide you better if you can upload a clear digital Image in "Reports Section".

It is likely that the irritation brought by ocean water would have drawn your attention to something that was already there.

Also let me know when was the last unprotected sex? Do you have a single or multiple sexual partners?

Brief Answer:
I would want you to test for Genital Herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I have reviewed the Image. I can see a few crusted erosions (one just at the opening of urethra and one or two besides it.
These lesions seem to be healing already and i guess most of the older ones have healed already.
The clinical picture though not very classic but I would certainly want you to test for genital herpes, specially considering that you have had unprotected sex in recent past

OK so I have cold sores and it seems that they take about two weeks to fully heal. These are like gone within three days. I swam two different times. Have you ever heard of someone's penis getting irritated like that from swimming in the ocean?
And to mention I know I had no sores on the way down here to Florida , nothing at all. This did not feel like the typical burn of the cold sores I get from time to time on my lips. When I came back from the ocean to shower is when I noticed them . when the water hit my head of my penis. Didn't notice it while I was in the ocean though. Then like two days later I get back in the ocean the rash or whatever it is was nearly healed up. Then I got another smaller patch the second time I went in the ocean. Almost three days ago. Now this evening you can even tell like anything was there. Look I'm not saying I do or don't have hsv2 but I do know that the hsv1 I have on my lips takes anywhere from 10-15 days to be completely gone. And at least 5 -7 maybe 8 days to crust over. This is done healed in three days. And I haven't been back in the ocean since 3 days ago and haven't gotten any other "rashes" or whatever . but I will go get checked when I get back home thats the sure way to know.

Brief Answer:
Genital herpes is a possibility pending confirmation by lab tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

The image that i saw showed only 2-3 sores that resemble herpetic sores passing through its healing phase. Therefore I suggested you to test for genital herpes. I am not confirming it as genital herpes as yet. It is still a possibility pending lab tests though it is hard to explain otherwise why would these sores occur on genitalia.

A new genital infection with Hsv type 2 in someone who already has Hsv type 1 infection i.e a non primary first episode of genital herpes, may be not very symptomatic and can also heal within a short time.
