default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: I noticed red spots on my penis. I have oral sex about 20 days ago. When I woke up my uvula was swollen. it healed after a few days by using penicillin which i had left over from my strep throat. I just noticed these spots about a week ago. It doesnt hurt or anything but when i saw it, thats when it started to hurt. Im not sure what this is. I would be happy to send a picture of it. Im not sure if this is herpes because i never felt any irritation until i noticed it. Im not sure if this is all in my head

Brief Answer:
Balano-posthitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and clear photographs and clear history.

This is not herpes. The picture is suggestive of a condition called balano-posthitis. Although this may be sexually transmitted, the treatment is simple.

You have to take an antibiotic and metronidazole. Since these are prescription medicines, you have to be seen by a Doctor and get a prescription.
These medicines will manage your problem. If you have spouse or a partner, she also should take this 5 day course, no sex till you get alright.

Go for a blood sugar test as this (balano-posthitis) may be the first indication of diabetes.

Keep the area clean and dry.
No need to apply anything locally at all. If you want you can apply liquid Povidone iodine twice daily.
