What Causes Red Spots On Lower Legs In A Diabetic Patient?

default
Posted on Sat, 31 May 2014
Question: I have type 2 diabetes tha thas been well managed. It was diagnosed in 2004 and I take metformin. Because it has been well managed I have had almost no problems. However, about 3 weeks ago I developed significant red spots on my lower legs. To date, there is no pain or itching. What might cause this? Would it be related to my diabetes. I am generally good health and will be 80 next month. The discoloration has remained about the same sinceit surprisingly arrived almost over night.

I don't have the technical knowledge to upload a photo but wi ll see if my daughter can tomorrow. Most spots are roughly a 1/2 inch in size but one large splotch is probably 2 inches square . They are not raised at this point but are definitely red, not purple. There are roughly 12 to 15 on each leg. There are a few smaller ones that resemble a heat rash in appearance but appearance only. A month ago there were none--just happened suddenly.
