What Causes Red Marks On Penis Glans?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Apr 2014
Question: Good Afternoon, I have been with the same girl for 3 years, but did receive oral from a different girl about four months ago. For about three months I have had these slightly red, shiney marks on my glans. I freaked out and did what everyone does and looked every where online. I saw herpes, warts, syphilis, etc. I can tell you these spots are flat, non raised, do not itch, do not hurt, and never had any discharge. I think I am overanalyzing so I went to a doctor ( one I never been to) showed him and he said I am not sure but it could be herpes. I couldn't imagine herpes being on my glans for three months with no pain, no ooze, no blisters. I have literally tried Coritzone Cream, Bentadine Wash, Cetaphil Wash and Lotion, Fungal Cream and nothing can get rid of this spot. I actually dried out the glans as I was using to much. Please review these photos and let me know if I should do something different and what it can be.

Brief Answer: Balanitis??Irritant dermatitis Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic. I am Dr. kakkar. I have gone through your concern and I have understood your query. I remember talking to you some time back. I had advised you to use a topical antifungal+beclomethasone cream at that time, but i don't think it worked as expected. You did mention that you used an antifungal cream. Going through your query and after having a look at the picture, i could relate this type of presentation to few of my patients who practice over enthusiastic hygiene of the delicate skin of glans e.g repeated washing with soaps, using either dettol or savlon for cleansing etc thus leading on to an irritant dermatitis which confuses both the patient as well as the clinician, as to what is the real cause?? without realizing that the overaggressive hygiene that they practice is itself the cause If i was your treating doctor i would have definitely asked you to apply a moderately potent topical steroid like fluticasone or mometasone twice daily. Cortisone is very mild and that is why, probably, it is not working as expected. General measures: -Avoid soaps/ cleansers to clean the delicate skin of foreskin and glans. Instead you can use just plain water or cetaphil cleansing lotion for gentle cleansing. Specific treatment for balanitis: -If i was your treating doctor i would have advised you to apply a moderately potent topical steroid cream e.g fluticasone or mometasone cream, twice daily for 7-10 days. take care regards

Brief Answer: Use a moderately potent steroid Detailed Answer: Hi. You can try if one of these steroids is available OTC in your country: fluticasone propionate OR mometasone furoate OR Betamethasone valerate OR clobetasone butyrate OR triamcinolone acetonide. While you apply the steroid, it should resolve in a few days. Avoid any soaps or anything else over there. Can use cetaphil cleansing lotion OR else use just plain water for cleansing. regards

I believe I can not get any of those OTC. Would this reside on its own without a steroid?

Brief Answer: Try cortisone rather than not using anything Detailed Answer: Hi. Cortisone is a better choice rather than not applying anything. Even cortisone cream would work but since it is a mild steroid it would act slowly and take longer. You can begin with that for now. regards
