What Causes Red, Itchy, Watery Eye?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: Hi there, I have a red, itchy, teary eye. It feels like I have a bit of sand in it. I don't think it's pink eye, since there is no yellow crusty stuff. Its been slowly getting worse and tonight I can't sleep with it because of the discomfort. I'm wondering if I should rinse it with cold water or what to do. Thank you

Brief Answer:
This can be eye infection or allergy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having red, itchy and watery eye associated with irritation. You can wash the eyes with cold it normal water, this will provide symptomatic relief.
This can be caused by infection or allergy of the conjunctiva in the form of infective or allergic conjunctivitis and requires treatment by the use of antibiotic and anti allergic eye drops.

I would like to treat conditions like this by the use if antibiotic eye drops like Moxifloxacin eye drops and artificial tears eye drops for symotinatic relief.
If the itching is severe I will treat with anti allergic medications like olopatadine eye drops along with antibiotic and artificial tears eye drops.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination for confirmation if diagnosis and prescriotion of rye drops accordingly.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
