What Causes Red Itchy Rashes Around Nose?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: I have had for 6 going on 7 weeks, a red, itchy, irritated, slightly bumpy rash around my both sides of my nose, more towards the bottom of the nose and nostrils. I first used Neosporin w/ pain relief for two weeks or so (helped a little and made sore feeling go away for short periods ), Vit E (soothed some but didn't make it go away and then the oily consistency seemed to irritate it), Silver Sulfadiazine 1% (helped the most, been using for 10-12 days, but hasn't gone away). The past 2 nights its woken me up in the middle of the night itching and burning. Not sure what to do or try next?

I just realized that in the pics it doesn't look as bad as it gets sometimes. I guess I have been keeping it a bay with the silver sulfadiazine cream. I read online that someone used erythromycin and it made it go away in about a week or so. I am figuring that I may need a topical antibiotic? Thanks, XXXX

I also read a comment that said they used Hydrocortisone as opposed to something called RX Metrogel and that it cleared it up in 2-3 days. I just used it for the first time and it seems to be calming it down as today it's been driving me crazy, but not sure it will make it go away. I've never had this issue before in my life and not sure why its happening now. Thanks again XXXX

Brief Answer:
Dermatitis, see following advice.......

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history and the photo you uploaded carefully and can say that the rash around your nostrils id due to dermatitis.
Important is to know what is causing it:
- contact with any allergen : detergent? Soap? Cosmetic cream ?
- bacterial infection?

If you did not change the detergents or cosmetic products, most probably it's due to an infection. Can use erythromycin cream mixed with hydrocortisone cream locally to reduce itchiness and subside infection/inflammation for at least 2 weeks. After that should reevaluate the changes to decide for further therapy.

Wish fast recovery!
