Posted on Fri, 24 Jul 2015
Question: I have begun to experience rectal bleeding. It has started suddenly and I have stomach bloating and hardness. It feels like I need to have a bowel movement and I have very watery, very bloody stools and there are very noticeable bloot clots, even when I wipe. Should this be treated on an emergency basis or can I contact my family doctor during normal business hours.

Brief Answer:
If bleeding persists, ER safer choice to rule out dangerous condition

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

if someone with your symptoms comes to my office i think about different possible reason first:

1.Can be bacterial or non bacterial colon inflammation which would mostly need some close medication with either antibiotics or prednisolone
2. May be just hemorrhoid bleeding which in some cases can be an emergency if bleeding does not stop itself.

So i recommend getting fast help in any case, depending on the business hours of the family doc and the intensity of the bleeding consultation of an ER is a reasonable option. I do not see any likely relation to the accident at this point.

Best regards
