What Causes Pulsating Sensation In Head?

default
Posted on Sat, 15 Nov 2014
Question: I have developed a painless on and off again pulsating sensation in the back left side of my skull. What could this be? It had only been going on for about an hour but I am a bit of a hypochondriac. Only actual medical diagnosis that I have is epilepsy.

Brief Answer:
Migraine headaches, need management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

It appears a simple throbbing pulsatile headache. A type of migraine, if you have a history of migraine then my suspicions are more likely. Its a simple headache any ways.

Start with 2 acetaminophens thrice day for two days and modify the routine, avoid all the triggers of migraine headaches like

Reduction of migraine triggers (eg, lack of sleep, fatigue, stress, certain foods)

Nonpharmacologic therapy (eg, biofeedback, cognitive-behavioral therapy)

Integrative medicine (eg, butterbur, riboflavin, magnesium, feverfew, coenzyme Q10)

Also be compliant with your antiepileptic medicines. As they might lead to recurrent seizures, and the medicine itself will help the headache.

if the pain persists then seek a neurologist for further management.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Khan
