Brief Answer:
screening starts at age 50yrs

Detailed Answer:
Carcinoma prostrate is a cancer with slow progression. Even in advanced stage patients have good survival. Since the cancer is harmone driven, removal of testis is done to remove the source of harmone testosterone. Since harmone can also arise from other organs like adrenals, complete androgen blockade is done by external therapy. this treatment is continued until further progression of disease.
Coming to your question of Prostrate cancer screening, screening is started at age 50 as prostrate is a disease of old age. Annual PSA and DRE is done.
Prostrate cancer is not hereditary. It is not usual for this cancer to run in families. But it is better for you to undergo screening since your father has it. We cannot predict who will get the disease. Hence PSA screening is recommended for all, not just those with family history. So dont worry and lead a normal life but remember screening from age 50. take care
