What Causes Pressure And Tightness In The Right Side Of The Body?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2017
Question: I have had a pressure tightness on the right side of my body for a few months. At first it was all in my ear and throat. I went to 2 ents and had a sinus scan and they didn't see anything. I went back to my GP and he said it seemed more like on the outside and that it was a muscle. The pressure is mainly focused on my right side and starts right above my ear, and then comes down toward my temple into my jaw my neck and down into my arm and also the back of my legs. It's most appartent in my head, all on right side, lots of pressure and tension and then it gets less as it goes down my rightside. My GP prescribed me xanax to relax the muscles which I did for a few days and it helped however when I stopped taking the xanax it came right back. I get a little dizzy with the head pressure. I had a brain mri 2 years ago and it showed clear and I've had neck scans two years ago and mri's that all showed okay. I'm just wondering what could cause the musle tension/pressure all on my right side and I don't like taking xanax every day or any muscle relaxers. I don't see how the one muscle in my head could cause my whole right side to have tension/pressure. And it's not headaches just pressure and muscle stiffness? Are there any other tests I could take or any other medicine I could try?

Brief Answer:
Repeat the cervical MRI, anxiety to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic,

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

You can repeat the MRI of the neck in order to exclude any cervical spinal cord compression by conditions such herniated disc disease, spondylosis, etc.

This because two years from last MRI is a long time to be sure that there is no structural damage.

If there is no compression on your spinal cord or nerves, anxiety may explain these symptoms and Xanax is okay to be used.

You can start an exercise program to improve the muscles function and relaxation also, by discussing with your primary care Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
