What Causes Poor Sleep Quality?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Sep 2014
Question: I have poor sleep quality. Allergies cause most of the problem, I think. At night I can wake up with a jolt which is very scary. I do take a Claritin tablet. Last night I didn't and was jolted awake about 2:30 am. I recently bought a My Pillow, brand name, and am wondering if I am allergic to the fill of the pillow. Also just this week my blood pressure medication was changed to a generic brand of Diovan, Valsartan . I have taken it for two days now. I am wondering if that could be causing the problem. Can you help me?

Brief Answer:
Both options are possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

When blood pressure medication is changed ,it usually takes some time for the body to adapt to the new drug and during this period you may have unstable blood pressure values.
In your case it is possible that oscillations in blood pressure may have caused your jolt wake up.
Your blood pressure might have been high in that moment.

If you have another episode like this ,then measure your blood pressure in that moment.
If the value of your blood pressure is high (over 140/90) then it is the cause.

Diovan itself doesn't cause any sleep problem.

If you are facing this problem since you got the new pillow and during this time your allergy symptoms(watery eyes and nose, congested chest with cough ,itching all over the body ,difficulty breathing ,rash on skin etc) are worse then it is possible that you are allergic to the fill of your new pillow.
You can try to make a prove and sleep some days with your old pillow and see if it changes something.
If you notice improvement, the allergy is most likely to be the cause of your sleep problem.

Hope it was of help.
Let me know if you have other questions or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to help you further.

Kind Regards!
