What Causes Pinching Sensation In Lower Left Abdomen?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Jul 2014
Question: I have a slight pinching sensation in my lower left abdomen. I believe it is my colon area. I have not had any blood in my stool. I have also had an occasion about a week ago where I was feeling a muscle twitch (very strong) or fluttering sensation in the area directly below my belly button. When I took a laxative the sensation finally went away after a couple of days. Are these signs of colon cancer?

Brief Answer:
No

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The symptoms that you are having are more likely to be due to a benign cause like fluid and electrolyte imbalance or a vitamin B 12 deficiency. You can get your serum levels evaluated and start with the suitable supplements. Do take plenty of electrolyte rich fluids and fresh fruit juices to avoid such twitches.
Do not worry. These are not suggestive of colon cancer.
I hope this answers your query.

Hello,

Thank you for your response Dr. XXXXXXX Tayal. You have helped to ease some of my concerns about colon cancer. I do have a quick follow up though.

The pinching pain in my lower left abdomen never did stop. Just the muscle twitches directly below my belly button have stopped. Do you feel that the pinching pain is also due to a vitamin B 12 deficiency or electrolyte imbalance? The pain has been off and on for a little over a month now.

I have never had any issues with bowel movements in the past, but since the pinching pain started I do get constipated or feel backed up every few days. Also when I bend over I can often feel the pinching pain. I am much less likely to feel the pain when I am just standing up. Just curious if this additional information would change your thoughts on my potential health issue?

Best Regards,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Cabn be enteritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The feeling of pinching pain deep inside the abdomen that is not colicky in nature and mild constipation can be related to a gut related pathology like enteritis or IBS. A colon cancer is last among the list of possible causes. However a colonoscopy and a few blood tests will help in proper confirmation.
Hope my answer is helpful.
