What Causes Pimple Like Bumps On The Lower Back?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Nov 2016
Question: Hi!! My husband is concerned because about 4 days ago he noticed these three bumps on his lower back by his waistline. When he first showed me they looked like pimples to me. The area around all three circles was red. He said they dont itch and havent bothered him at all. The only time they may hurt is if his wasteband rubs up against them. They have scabbed over and look like this now. Anyway, does this look like acne? Is that normal for it to be in a row? Or does it look more like it could be a spider bite of some sort? It's no where else on his body- and we think it is weird that it is in a row. Any ideas as to what it might be would be helpful. We are thinking about taking him to the doctor incase it is something he might need medicine for? At what point should we take him in? They look like they are scabbing up and they dont hurt so we were thinking of waiting a few days. Thanks!!

Brief Answer:
Seems to be insect bite reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
I have reviewed the attached photograph and it is not looking like acne.
It seems to be insect bite reaction, although exact insect causing it can't be identified.
Insect bites can occur in a row.
If it is not causing any pain, burning or any other symptoms no need to worry.
In case it presents with pain, burning or fever you can consult a doctor.
Meanwhile you can apply a topical antibiotic like Neosporin ointment twice daily for 5-7 days to avoid secondary infection.
It should resolve in another 7-10 days.
Regards
Dr Asmeet

What type of bugs bite in a row? I googled things before asking on here and got scared because i read things anout bed bugs. Do these bites look like bed bugs to you? They dont itch him at all. I stripped my sheets and looked all over and couldnt find anything. I washed our bedding and i havent had any bites and he hasnt had any others like this. Do you think it could be abed bug bite, or more likely a spider or some other type of bite?

Brief Answer:
Doesn't seem to be bug bites, can be spider bite or some other insect

Detailed Answer:
I don't think it is bug bite as they are associated with itchy lesions.
I can't comment on what kind of insect is responsible for these bites but these are definitely looking like insect bite reactions.
