What Causes Persistent Headache, Facial Numbness And Migraine?

Question: EXPERT NEURLOGY OPINION NEEDED

I need a list, or ideas of what could be causing pins and needles. 32 male.

Background: (May or may not be related) 8 years ago, I had a bout of LEFT sided intense facial numbness which lasted several years. I had a 2 year history of really bad headaches, now resolved. 2 year history of vestibular migraine, and bi-lateral facial numbness during episodes, which is now much better.

Currently, I am having an issue with pins and needles.  I will mention that in the past, when I became “hot”, such as when 1st exercising, going from cold to hot, ect, I used to get INTENSE episodes of body itching and pins and needles. I think this was related to sweat pores not opening up right. This would last maybe 20 mins, then go away and I would be fine. Also for the last several years or more, after sex, I get very itchy everywhere and my whole body is sensitive for like the whole night after. (itchy all over, some pins) Like really sensitive, some night I can even sleep its so bad. From research, I think this is called liked a “neuro itch” something to do with the nervous system, lumbar spine.

Anyways, my current issue. So now, the last 2 months I am getting episodes of pins and needles everywhere. They start for no clear reason. This is not numbness, this is burning pins and needles, stabs and shocks too, and some itchiness. Sometimes my leg will jerk or spams for a second.  It doesn’t happen 24/7 but it’s there allot.  It can be in my hands, wrists, forearms, finger, thighs, butt, shoulder, legs, feet, sometimes back. It is usually like a 2 sec pins and needles feeling in one spot, then it can move to somewhere entirely different in a split second, or be in multiple spots at once. Can last for hours on and off. I also notice some chills down my neck and back. These pins are painful, come and go all the time.

I have no answers, besides maybe lyme disease. I had a brain mri with contrast last week, and it was unremarkable. I do not have kidney or liver issues. B12 looks good. No diabetes. No one really has any ideas.  The only thing that I have a possibility of is lyme. Or I did look and noticed that a total spine mri I had back 7 years ago showed mild disc bulging in everyone one of my lumbar joints….   Maybe that  got worse and it causing the current symptoms? I have no idea.

I have even see a psychologist weekly now for 6 weeks to see if maybe anxiety could be a cause. So far, no help and he does not think this is the issue.

Brief Answer:
Possible causes listed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Underlying causes of pins and needles may be several.

After examinations results that you uploaded some of these causes are excluded.

A list of pins and needles causes besides those excluded includes:

Reduced blood supply, nerves injury, effect of toxic substances on nerves (lead, alcohol etc.), side effects of certain drugs, multiple sclerosis, anxiety disorder etc.

Multiple levels of degerative spine disease may be a cause also.

It is necessary for a full check up with a new spine MRI, nerve conduction study, somatosensory evoked potentials, blood tests about possible poisoning elements, in order to understand better your condition.

Discuss with your Doctor about getting evaluated further.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Brief Answer:
Conditions listed below.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

It is not advisable for you to take diagnostic steps by yourself.

A Neurologist should do this in your case, by examining you directly and ordering appropriate tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Conditions to evaluate are anxiety and stress dissorder, polyneuropathies, demyelinating neuropathies, multiple sclerosis, heavy metals poisoning, multiple levels degenerative spine disease, transverse myelitis, etc.

Tests mentioned before help in narrowing possibilities and exclude some of the conditions, but tests never can substitute medical examination.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
