What Causes Persistent Dizziness?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Dec 2016
Question: Since I was young I suffered from periodic dizziness (in my 20s). I am in my 60s. I still get it. So awful the room spins but then seems to settle down. It goes away. The last attack was in September and then started again Nov 24. I've had antibiotics, allergy pills, anti dizziness pills, and one doctor had me shake my head from side to side which made it worse. Lately my balance has been a little off too. I do get ear aches but they find nothing wrong. I also had Mal Debarquement after a cruise for 3 months but took 2 more cruises and had no problem. I was so miserable with being dizzy again I looked on line and saw this Meniere's disease. Do you think my dizziness could be related to that? Many people in my family have autoimmune diseases, my brother has scleroderma and my cousin died from it, my sister has rheumatoid arthritis, and there are others. Right now my ears are ringing and ache but I know if I go to the doctor they won't find anything again. I know if I wait a week or two the symptoms should subside but it is very difficult when having it.

Brief Answer:
Yes it is Meinere's disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.
Yes unfortunately the description of your symptoms point towards Meinere's disease ,which has got advanced and giving you balance problems.
Nevertheless it would also be worthwhile to get a CT of the brain done to rule out other problems.
Labrynthine sedatives like Betaserc and Cinnarizine help in managing the dizziness.
Labrynthine excercises will also help a great deal but do it when you do not have the symptoms.
When you have the spinning it is preferable to lie down ,don't drive or do any heavy work.
Diuretics also help in this regard
If conservative methods fail inserting a Meinette ' s tube may have to be considered.
ENT surgeon would be the best person to decide.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
