What Causes Persistent Chest Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: 30 y/o male, never smoked, never drank or used drugs, former college athlete. Admittedly I could eat better, but am in relatively good shape (5'10, 178 lbs). Last doctors visit was in february, my blood pressure was 120/77. Recently had sore lymph nodes for past 6 weeks. I jad a pretty bad cold right around then as well. Also had chest pain for last month. Chest pain is on left side, about 3 inches below and 1 inch towards outside of nipple. Chest pain is not sharp, it's a dull pain...sometimes I think it's muscular because I can feel it more in certain positions. It's not exacerbated by breathing in and out (I've had thone pains in the past). The pain is not constant, nor does it come around at any particular time of day. Other than one grandfather who had a heart attack at age 70, there is not a history of heart problems in my family.

Brief Answer:
Does not look like a cardiac pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Considering your age, no risk factor & quality of pain it does not look like a cardiac pain.
Cardiac pain is non localized & is dull in character. It increases on exertion & relieved on rest. Still you should check your ECG & 2D Echo.
Other causes of chest pain are muscle pain & chostochondritis(inflammation of junction between bone & cartilage of chest bones). These two are mild conditions & relieved by pain killers.
If you have any further queries I'll be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health.
Regards
Dr Sameer Maheshwari
