What Causes Persistent Bilateral Swelling Above Clavicles?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: Hello,

I have had persistent bilateral swelling above clavicles for over two years. They are not painful at all, however I have developed numbness, tingling in arms and legs, digestive problems, and dizziness. I have a goiter, and positive antibodies however, am euthyroid currently. I also have anti dsDNA antibodies. I was told the swelling was d/t fat deposits, however since the birth of my last child I've lost 75lbs, and have a BMI <25. The weight loss has only accentuated this swelling, and they have slowly gotten larger. Thoughts?

Brief Answer:
They look like Lipomas.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am sorry to say that the pic has not been uploaded.

As per your description, they look like Lipomas, accumulation of fat. They have no relation to Goitre or the symptoms that you have mentioned.
They can occur anywhere in the body. As you have lost weight, they are seen prominently.
The best way to confirm the diagnosis is by FNAC ( Fine Needle aspiration Cytology) of the swelling.
I prefer to remove the swelling surgically and send it for histopathological examination (Biopsy). Exact diagnosis will be confirmed.
There are no medicines for Lipoma. Surgical removal is the only option.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
