What Causes Persistent Abdominal Pain While Treating Pelvic Inflammatory Disease?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Question: I've been given Cefalexin for a PID but still have pain after two days. Should I be taking another antibiotic as well? When will pain stop? When does it start to affect my fertility? I got it from an HSG test on my tube.

Brief Answer:
Take metronidazole in addition to cephalexin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns.

I suggest that you discuss with your doctor and take Metronidazole in addition to cephalexin. Metronidazole treats any anaerobic infection. Once you start this treatment, you should be feeling better in 48 hours time. If not further assessment by doctor is necessary.
Since you have started the treatment early, in my experience it should not affect fertility.
