Brief Answer:
mixed hearing loss- requires audiometry.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your mother is having deafness.

Answers and suggestions.

1. Perforation in ear drum, getting infected with monsoon suggestive of chronic suppurative media (chronic infection in ear drum). It will cause conductive deafness.

2. In senility, aged onset deafness occurs due to nerve (responsible for hearing) degeneration leading to sensorineural deafness.

In my opinion, your mother is having mixed hearing loss, where hearing loss will be in higher degree. (conductive +sensorineural).

In case of severe loss, in elderly person, hearing aids are the choice of treatment.

I suggest you to do a audiometry to know the degree and type of deafness. Depending on the loss, treatment can be started.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

hello,
we also have the hearing aids for both ears. However the problem is as soon as those aids are worn, in absence of any fresh air the ears start discharging and the same vicious cycle of pain starts. The problem is discharging in event of wearing the aid. This is the problem I am in search to resolve. pls advise precisely.

Brief Answer:
Needs Ent and audiologist consultation

Detailed Answer:

Hello agin,

I suggest you to follow these measures to overcome her periodic draining ears.

1. Get evaluated with ent surgeon for source of infection (allergic rhinitis, psoriasis, cholesteatamoa or dermatitis).

2. You need to discuss with the audiologist BC (bone conduction hearing aid), RIC (receiver in the canal) are the varieties can be used in infected ears, where receiver is a small tube, will not have contact with ear canal skin.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
