Brief Answer:
Most likely due to lack of fiber rich diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

Most likely reason for such stools is diet poor in fiber content. Also, dehydration due to less intake of water adds on to the problems.

So, I would recommend you to enrich his diet with good fiber rich food. These includes:
-Grains: Whole-grain breads and cereals, oat XXXXXXX brown rice, and barley.
-Fruits: Apples, oranges, berries, prunes, and pears.
-Vegetables: Green peas, baked potatoes with skin, and legumes (e.g., dried beans, split peas, and lentils)

Encourage him to have plenty of water daily.
You may give Syp. Lactulose for constipation if the problem is severe and discomforting for the child.

Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
