What Causes Passing Of Blood In Urine?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: Hi, I am passing blood in my urine, it is not fresh blood, but is evident each time I use the toilet. I have a long standing mirena coil which has not been troublesome in the 10 years that I have used one. It is due to be removed, or replaced, again this year. (I also have a small lump on the right side side of my outer neck - which I only noticed for the first time a few days ago, and may be completely unrelated). I am having quite a lot of bilateral lower back pain, and lower abdominal discomfort, and am just feeling generally under the weather, and lacking in energy. I am managing to hold down my full time job, but I am finding that I am spending a LOT of my time outside of work, needing to lie down and rest. I am 43 years old, I am an RGN, and I am generally NOT very good at looking after my own medical health. I am usually so busy that I live in the hope that things will right themselves eventually.

Brief Answer: Need some basic investigations like ultrasound Detailed Answer: Hi It looks like you have indeed been neglecting your health. At the very least you need some basic investigations. These include an ultrasound examination of your abdomen with a full bladder and an estimate of urine residue after you have voided urine. A complete blood picture, complete urine examination and A urine culture need to be done. An estimate of kidney function and xray of your kidney and blaader area might be needed depending on findings on ultrasound. We also look for any other feature of bleeding disorders. An experienced pathologist might analyse the uribe for cytology and morphology to look for abnormal cells. Once these reports are available we will be in a better position to advice you.I suggest you get these done as early as possible. Hope I have been of help. Best wishes.
