default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: I had a hysterectomy and bladder tack 5 mo. Ago. I have pain when urination sometimes and difficulty emptying my bladder. My urologist wants to do a cystoscope but I am not sure this would help. Motrin helps. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to many causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The pain during urination with a history of surgery can be due to infection or bladder neck scarring or a stricture or calculus. If the infection has been ruled out then the other options need to be explored after a cystoscopy.
Feeling pain while passing the urine might also be due to more acidic nature of the urine.
To prevent this, have more and more fluids per day.
Avoid acidic fruit juices like lime juice, orange juice, etc.
Plenty of cranberry juice will help in reducing the symptoms.
Examine the external genital area carefully for any injury and rashes.
If the symptoms do not improve you can get an ultrasound scan done to rule out any possibility of renal or ureteric calculus.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
