What Causes Painful Swelling In The Palm Of The Hand?

Question: The palm of my right hand thumb area has been sore for several weeks. Seems to be swollen abit and if I bump it on anything it hurts like crazy. To move my thumb is painful, is this or can this be something serious? XXXX

Thank you for the query.

Have you had any injury of this area or some intense activity?
Such symptoms are usually caused by tondons inflammation due to overload of such tendon. It is nothin serious however need some treatment.
Lukewarm compresses, rest and antiinflammatory medicines are the first line of treatment. It it fails, steroid injection should be considered.
X-ray should be done as well. Please consult orthopedist.
