Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: I had a complete hysterectomy 10 years ago. I've not had intercourse in all that time until recently. I used lubrication, however bled afterwards. The sex was painful as well. What can I do or what could cause this?

Brief Answer:
you may use an estrogen cream for removing vaginal dryness

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for contacting health care magic.

If you have undergone complete hysterectomy which i understand that didnt include ovaries , and considering that you were sexually inactive for last 10 years , it implies that vaginal mucousa and muscles have undergone disuse atrophy.
the pain is because of the stretching and bleeding could have been because of the frictional injury during the intercourse. It shall subside , however to reduce the pain and friction you may use ESTRIOL CREAM twice a week for 2 weeks to rejuvenate the mucousa and remove the vaginal dryness. This would help you and would alleviate the pain .
In the meantime you may use the Ky jelly for lubrication and may use the vibrator to relax the vaginal muscles.

Brief Answer:
all the more reason to use estriol cream ....explained

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up.
Well in that case , you have undergone surgical menopause and considering that estrogen replacement is required.
If you dont have any other post menopausal issue and you are coping well and the only concern is the vaginal dryness then ESTRIOL which is an estrogen based cream would help you indeed.
Now learning that ovaries have been removed, i would suggest you to use it for twice a week for atleast 3 month together. This would remove the vaginal dryness and and make the vaginal mucousa more receptive.
This is a very effective treatment for post menopausal sexually active women and alleviate the need for regular HRT treatment is no other post menopausal symptom is a concern except vaginal dryness and dyspareunia( painful intercourse.)
