What Causes Pain Under The Breast Radiating To Back After Coughing Hard?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Apr 2014
Question: I have had a cold, sinus infection for almost 2 months. Received amoxicillin and feel somewhat better. But my cough was so bad that at times I coughed so hard I threw up. Now I have had a sharp pain on my right side, right under my breast, that radiates to my back. It hurts so bad I can't even lay on my right side or even my back at times. Could I have hurt myself coughing?

Brief Answer: There is possibility Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for consulting HealthcareMagic! Yes, there is possibility. However, a Physical examination is mandatory to assess this since there are variety of other causes that needs to be ruled out. Conditions like pneumonia, bronchitis and many more can also cause such pain. So, investigation like chest x ray are needed if there is no improvement. Hope I have answered your query. Brief Answer: Refer below Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for follow up. Acetaminophen may help in relieving this kind of pain, provided you do not have any major kidney or liver problems. However, it would be unethical and inappropriate to prescribe you scheduled drugs without doing a proper examination. Hope I have answered your query. Thank you, I wasn't seeking a prescription, just over counter remedies such as ibuprofen vs. Tylenol and heat vs. cold. XXXX

Brief Answer: Refer below Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for follow up. Acetaminophen I have mentioned above is nothing but Tylenol, which may help in relieving this kind of pain, provided you do not have any major kidney or liver problems. Hot compresses may help if it is due to musculoskeletal pain. Take care!
