Brief Answer:
could be due to muscle spasm/strain

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the query

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to muscle strain.

1.You can do hot compress or hot fomentation over the painfull area
2.You can apply absorbine plus jr or voveran thermogel after that.
3.If pain is more you can take pain killers like Diclofenac/Ibubrofen also.
4.Avoid lifting heavy weights. Rest for 3 days from moderate to heavy physical activities also is required.
5.If there is no improvement then you may need muscle relaxants. I would suggest muscle relaxants like Hifenac MR for 3 to 5 days. These are prescription drugs. You can ask your local doctor for it.
6.Even after this there is no improvement then you need to do X ray of right shoulder is required. In case of any such injuries physiotherapy and wearing corsets will be required.

If you have any doubt you are welcome
Take care

Could it be coming from torn rotator cuff? Seeing doctor for severe shoulder pain and that is what he suspects. Am due to have an MRI in a couple of weeks to see if that's the problem, just never thought the back pain was related!

Brief Answer:
clinical examination required - Consult orthopedic surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks again
I really appreciate your concern, looking to the history given here I would say that in such cases you need to follow the advise given by the doctor because without the clinical examination nothing can be said for sure, so why it better to follow the advise given by the doctor at the most you can have second opinion or third opinion if you find any abnormalities in MRI report.
If MRI report comes normal then you may need to take rest completely for atleast 2 weeks along with analgesics and muscle relaxant.

Take care
Regards
Dr Priyanka
