Question: I have constant pain at the top of my hamstring and the base of my buttocks. It feels like a strain. I'm also having lower back pain on the same side. Sitting for prolonged periods of time causes pain. Standing after sitting cause pain. Walking and running is no problem. I am 66 years old and very athletic.

Brief Answer:
Muscle strain, analgesics

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query.

I would like to know since when are you facing this problem?
Is there any history of injury or strain?

One of the common cause of your symptoms is muscle strain. Sometimes muscle gets pulled during some act , most of the times we do not remember this.

You should take NSAID like Aceclofenac with muscle relaxants like Chlorzoxazone/ Tizanidine twice daily for 3-5 days based on the response. You can ask your local doctor for prescription of this agent. Along with this hot compression and analgesic gel or spray will be beneficial.
With this measures you should be fine.

I hope this helps. If you have any further queries I'll be glad to address them.
Take care

Thank you. The diagnosis was fine. I'm retired and have recently moved to a new town with my wife and we don't have an MD to write prescriptions.
