What Causes Pain In Rib Cage Along With A Slight Bulge?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2015
Question: MY 16 year old son c/o RUQ pain, couple of inches below upper rib cage. There is a very slight smooth bulge noted. He is symptomatic in the sense when he does planks, pushup or pullups and does not bother him otherwise. HE states if he mashes on it, it is sore. Could this be an indication of CA or some sort of athletic injury such as a tear or sport hernia?

Brief Answer:
Most probably muscular.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query for your son.
Such type of pain where he feels sore on mashing indicates that this is muscular pain.
Cancers are not known to occur at such an early age, hence nothing to worry about it.
He can do push ups and such activities means does not look anything serious.
Slight bulge can be due to sore and swollen muscles.
Ask him to cough, if the swelling enlarges it is hernia, if no increase means no hernia.
It is advisable that a clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon can allay all your doubts. Please consult one.

I hope this answers your query.
