Posted on Wed, 23 Apr 2014
Question: Hello, I have been experiencing something strange for the past few weeks. It is pain on the front of my lower legs from the knee down. If I kneel wrong or move wrong there is a terrible sharp pain like paper tearing or glass shattering! It doesn't last very long but it does take my breath away. It isn't a deep pain but more on the outside just under the skin. It also doesn't happen all the time, but more unexpectedly. Have you ever heard of this? Thanks so much. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: There can be pinch nerve in spine Detailed Answer: Hello Mr. XXXXXXX I have read your case report and only two conditions come in my mind. 1. it can be a pinch nerve in spine, due to disc prolapse. This nerve get compressed during bending and you feel sharp pain. Do you feel this pain is like electric sensation. Also are you a smoker as this causes more chance of nerve irritation. 2. Other cause can be knee arthritis. Pain of arthritis is more in knee but some time it can be in legs. I would suggest you to show to orthopaedic surgeon and get MRI of the spine and knee x ray and we will get more clear picture. Till you show to orthopaedician I would suggest you to take Pregabalin and Methylcobal tablet one daily. Take both tablets at night time and your pain will decrease.Let me know result of these investigations. Feel free to ask any other question related to this. Thanks and take care.

The pain is in both legs from the knee down about 6-8 inches and is not deep in fact just under the skin. I have had my spine checked and do not have a pinched nerve nor prolapse. I also have been checked for arthritis and do not have that. I have never smoked. Is there any connective tissue illness or something else? The pain is not like an electric sensation. It is more like a tearing or "breaking" feeling (like glass shattering).

Brief Answer: Pregabalin and Methylcobalamine can solve it. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX If this is the condition then I must admit that there is no diagnosis which fits in. Connective tissue illness are not so much painful. Only thing left which can cause such pain is vasculitis. I would still want you to take Pregabalin and Methylcobal for pain relief. We should wait for some time, may be one month and see if symptoms improves. Otherwise you should go for MRI of both leg & vitamin B12 estimation. Thanks and please give me feed back after one month. Let me know if any investigation shows any thing abnormal in you. Thanks and take care.
