What Causes Pain In Lower Abdominal Area After Taking Abortion Pill?
Question: Hello Doctor,
My wife got pregnant last month. We was not financially sound so we planned to abort. Her last period was on 28 aug.. she has taken abortion pill on 7th oct. High cramps and good bleeding last for 5 days. but pain in lower abdominal continues. after 10 days, on 23 Oct. Bleeding started again with good pain in lower abdomen and back. we thought it might be normal period. It stopped again on 26 th. we consulted with one gynce but we dint informed her about abortion. Doctor has done sonography of pelvis and pregnancy test. everything came normal . pregnancy test was negative.
then my wife moved to his fathers home for stay. suddenly on 2nd nov. bleeding started again and continues till today. though sometimes it stops but comes again. she has consulted with anothe gynec. Doctor has given some antibiotics doxycycline and metronidazole along with trexanamic acid tab. to stop bleeding. bleeding stops during the effect of tablet but then again continues.
Kindly suggest what we should do.

Pregnancy must always be confirmed and dated by a gynecologist, as the pills work within a narrow time frame.
Also, the pills must be taken in correct manner as per prescription.
After taking the pills, bleeding with cramps, clots and passage of a fleshy mass occurs within 24 - 48 hours.
Heavy bleeding lasts for a few days, but spotting might continue for 2 - 3 weeks.
After completing the course of pills, a follow up scan should be done after 2 weeks to check that the uterus is empty and the pills worked.
None of this was done in your case.
Without following these precautions, you run the risk of severe complications such as infection, heavy bleeding, irregular bleeding ,incomplete abortion, future affect on fertility, undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy etc.
Right now, you have already blundered in taking abortion pills yourself.
Now do not self medicate at all.
Where do you reside ?
Consult a reputed gynecologist.
Get an internal exam done.
Then get a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan done ( not abdominal ).
Get a vaginal swab and culture done to rule out infection.
Please do not neglect these steps as they are critical for your wife's health.
As such, after an abortion, periods might remain irregular for 2 - 3 months, so I do not want to make you panic, but I want to stress the importance of following correct steps in health care.
Please use a contraceptive meanwhile, as she may fall pregnant again, while having unprotected sex.
