Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: am 23 years old, male. I have a very weird problem with my knee joint, I have been feeling pain in my knees for two years,I got three Knee MRI and doctors who saw them told me that there is no problem with my knee joint, Once one of them told me that there is a little skew in my heel's bone, and a little protruding in my patella. one else told me that I'm suffering from Chondromalacia.
I have been using MoveFreeAdvance (Glucosamine) for two years, but still I feel pain and tiredness in my knees and legs after 30 minute of walking. One of therapist told me that I am going to get genu varum and thus I'm using insole and specific slipper to walk in house. The main problem with my knees is their skin is much colder that legs region , while legs feels normal my knees are colder. If i want to talk about past, i used to ran all the time at stairs when i was teenage, and went for track and field in high school. I'm guessing those might be the initialization of problems i am suffering these days. Could please help with what's wrong with my knees??
Sincerely
doctor

Brief Answer:
Can be due to capsular inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the knee that you have can be due to minor stress related capsular inflammation. Since the MRI scan is normal there is nothing serious involved.
The mild inflammation of the knee after some activity like workouts or walking mostly subsides by taking antiinflammatory agents and mild pain killers like ibuprofen. In some cases for acute problem muscle relaxants like thiocolchicoside are needed after consulting with your orthopaedician.
Decrease in joint lubricants like Glucosamine is not likely at your age. Injections - intra- articular can be considered if all other measures fail.
In the meanwhile, for symptomatic relief:
1. Give enough rest to your knee- use a knee brace.
2. Take mild pain killers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
3. Stronger prescription NSAIDS with muscle relaxants may help if simple analgesics do not help.
4. Hot compresses to your knee will be useful pain relieving measure. You may apply a local analgesic gel on that area.
5. calf and hamstring stretches can be helpful under the guidance of a physiotherapist after the acute pain subsides completely.

I hope this answers your query.

Thanks for your response. But what is very odd with my joint is that upper side and lower side of my knee are in normal temperature. Hip bones and leg are in regular temperature, but my knee is much cooler than those when I come after a mild short workout and walking??!
While mild inflammation has its certain problem such as pain tiredness, but this weird issue of feeling cold is very annoying and seems like scary.
What you think about this problem then??

Thanks

Brief Answer:
This can be normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The feeling of cold on the knee cap can be a physiological variation. The skin overlies bone in that area with minimal subcutaneous fat. It is not suggestive of any pathology. You can wear clothes that cover the knee cap or use an elastic knee brace. It will prevent the feeling of coldness.
Hope my answer is helpful.
